The Reason this DNC Has Concealed its 2024 Election Autopsy: A Deep Dive.

The move by the Democratic National Committee to block the publication regarding its internal post-election analysis on the last presidential race is shocking but entirely predictable. Resistant to frank assessments, the Democrats' governing body operates closer to a publicity machine rather than a political organization committed to cultivating local power for winning elections.

An Environment of Conformity

Reluctant to break with the prevailing attitude demanding unity, the DNC has remained within the Biden-Harris shadow throughout this past year. Making public an official autopsy could have demonstrated that the leadership truly desire to encourage open debate regarding the errors that paved the way for the former president to become president again. Instead, the committee is acting under the pretense that there is little to glean from the electoral catastrophe from the last cycle.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? Should the answer be negative, it is an unnecessary diversion from the core mission," a justification that has been offered for withholding the report.

Major Failures a Report Would Have Addressed

An autopsy report worth its salt would tackle head-on key points of failure. This encompasses:

  • Voter Alienation: Failing to retain of a significant portion of the electorate that backed the party's candidate during the previous election was decisive in the narrowly decided recent race.
  • The Choice to Run: The stubborn decision by the incumbent to seek re-election, alongside a last-minute exit, has been criticized as denying the party's base of a genuine choice.
  • Abandoning the Working-Class Base: While facing rising costs, the electoral effort reportedly accommodating powerful financial backers and not managing to confront the effects of big business.
  • A Foreign Policy Factor: An unwillingness to reconsider a stance regarding the situation in Gaza allegedly caused alienating significant blocs, particularly with youth voters, Arab-Americans, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Youth Support: Polling data indicates a major decrease in votes for the candidate from voters aged 18-29.

A History of Evasion

The decision to withhold aligns with a longstanding habit of sidestepping uncomfortable facts. It recalls a dynamic where nearly all elected Democrat in Washington supported a sitting president's decision for running for re-election right up until a poor televised debate compelled an exit.

At the same time, overwhelming numbers of the electorate were continually telling researchers that they opposed that candidate to run again.

Financial Issues

An honest report would also probe issues about campaign spending, including what sums were directed to high-priced advisors as well as media firms over the course of an electoral effort that burned through a staggering sum over a few months.

The Broader Issue

Fundamentally, the blockage regarding the analysis is symptomatic of a submission to the established hierarchy who engineered an unsuccessful presidential campaign. The message to ordinary supporters – including millions of small donors – is that they do not be trusted to know the lessons party chiefs say they discovered based on hundreds of interviews drawing from extensive interviews.

A party unable to critically review its mistakes will struggle to escape the rut that ended up being so helpful to their opponents.
